Badminton centre fetes medal winners

Punshiyai Badminton Training Centre of Imphal Western Club, Uripok Khumanthem Leikai felicitated its players, who won medals at the recently held 1st Thongam Ibotombi Devi Memorial Non-State Badminton Tournament and The Yonex Sunrise 41st Inter District & 68th State Open Badminton Championship 2024, at Chumthang Shannapung, Langthabal Phura Makhong on Sunday.
The players who won medals at the Thongam Ibotombi Devi tournament are Maning-doula Kuina (U9 girls singles), Shanon Loitongbam (Ull boys), Lanchenba (U13 boys), Genelia (U13 girls), Thajalembi Asem (U15 girls), Lanchenba and Vandam Chiru (U15 boys doubles), Pouchundibou Newmai (U17 boys), Y Helina (U17 girls), Vandam Chiru and Namyinali Pamei (U17 mixed doubles), Y Raj and Somorendro (U17 boys doubles), Mangan Laishram (U19-boys), L Diamond and Ksh Began (U19 boys doubles), AS Khangammapam in men's singles and with Pouchundibou Newmai in men's doubles.
The Yonex Sunrise 41st Inter District & 68th State Open Badminton Championship 2024 medallists are Shanon Loitongbam and N Debasish in U11 boys singles and U11 boys doubles, Dilan P Thokchom (U15 boys), Th Harsh and A Lanchenbi (U17 mixed doubles), A Lanchenbi and A Devika (U17 girls doubles) and Chirom Vikson and Rajkumar Ronald (men's doubles) .
As part of the function, special gift of professional badminton racquets were presented to three exceptional players of the centre, namely, Shanon Loitongbam, N Debasish and A Lanchenbi.
Speaking as chief guest, Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) president and minister Thongam Biswajit lauded the training centre for producing extraordinary players.
He also announced that the Association has initiated a special programme to select 10 men and women players from each district and engaged coach for intensive training so that they can excel at state and international level.
The programme was also attended by MBA vice presidents G Chittaranjan and H Sanjiv Sharma among others.
