Everest conqueror felicitated

Imphal, July 03 2013: Mount Everest conqueror Ningthoujam Bidyapati Devi has been felicitated by Young Women Help Organisation at a simple function held today at its Hotel Excellency office.

Bidyapati recently scaled the world's highest peak as a member of the North East Mt Everest team.

As chief guest of the felicitation programme Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress president Kim Gangte applauded spirit and achievement of Manipuri womenfolk in diverse sectors.

While Manipuri women continue to bring laurel to the State through their outstanding performances in various fields, particularly sports, isolated incidents of crime against women need to be effectively tackled through collective effort, said the former MP.

Noting that Manipuri women had been taking the leading role in social issues too, she exuded confidence that women and children could be protected from various social ills if there is political will amongst the womenfolk.

While Kim Gangte acknowledged undying spirit of Bidyapati and described her perseverance as exemplary, event host president Thangjam Shanti conveyed that today's simple felicitation function is in honour of Bidyapati's relentless endeavour and valour to scale the world highest peak inspite of being aware that the expedition was a dangerous mission.

She also wished Bidyapati success in all her future endeavours.
