Sports can be powerful unifying force: YAS Minister

Imphal, June 23 2017: Sport serves as a powerful platform in breaking downbarriers and divisions among diverse cultures and background sand it can play a pivotal role in promoting peace, brotherhood and friendship, stated Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Minister Letpao Haokip.

The Minister stated this while flagging off the Olympic Day Run-2017 organised by the Manipur Olympic Association in collaboration with Youth Affairs and Sports Department with the theme 'Run for Peace and Friendship' at Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex today morning.

Letpao Haokip further said that one can attain healthy living and peace of mind as well as positive thinking through sports.

And the State Government has been working on to promote and uplift sportspersons of the State to the level they deserve.

About 1,000 players and officials from different sports disciplines took part in the Olympic Day Run.

The run which was flagged off from Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex culminated at the starting point after touching Khongnang Ani-Karak, North AOC and MMTA.

Amongst others, the event was attended by I Hemochandra, President, Manipur Olympic Association; Prof.Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University and H Deleep, Commissioner (YAS & Higher Education) as the president and guests of honour respectively.
