YAS Minister applauds youth focusing on sports

Imphal, December 22 2021: YAS Minister Letpao Haokip stated that youth in the border districts of Manipur have started giving up intoxicants and are focusing more on sports and maintaining good health.

This was said by the Minister while attending the closing ceremony of the 1st Khodamphai Birip Trophy football tournament at Aimol Khodamphai Playground, Tengnoupal district.

The tournament was organised by the United Khodamphai Sporting Club (UKSC) from December 9 .

Attending the closing function as chief guest, Letpao said that people have started putting more emphasis on sporting activities nowadays, and it is a good trend.

Sports will lead to good health, and good health, in turn, will make a good and developed society, he said while adding that organization of such tournaments will help in clearing the impression that youth belonging to border districts are mostly drug abusers and are involved in illegal drug trafficking.

The YAS Minister said that he has been proposing to higher authorities and the Centre the idea of inculcating at least one sports discipline as a part of the academic syllabus to school going students.

This idea has been appreciated and it is hopeful that it may be translated into reality soon, he said.

In the function that was attended by hundreds of villagers from nearby areas, Khupboi Aimol (MCS), DC (DE) & Registrar Lok Ayukta and Wanboy Aimol, Assistant Director, AYJNISHD were among the presidium members.
