Raja Goukhothang tourney to kick-start in January

CCPur, October 22 2019: The Raja Goukhothang Guite Football Memorium 2020, scheduled to be held as early as the first half of January next, is now all set to take domestic football in the State to another level as it promises a prize money of Rs 3 lakh to the winners.

The tournament's host Ropiang foundation has announced yesterday that the second edition of the RGGFM will be held at Lamka Public Ground from early January to mid-February.

With Oil India Limited chosen to be the title sponsor, the principal awards on offer will be 3 lakh for the champions, 1.5 lakh for the runners-up.

Over and above these prize money, medals, citations, mementos and individual awards will also given to the finalists and those deserving teams or players, said a statement issued by the foundation.

In addition, the 2020 edition will have 'The Spirit of Raja Goukhothang' as its theme song while the locally domesticated hen (Singtang Akpi) as its mascot, it added.

The tournament will be open for all but has a rider for participating teams.

They shall have at least two players aged below 19, and more than 50 percent of the players in each team are to be 'fellow tribesmen' .
