Imphal, February 22 2018: District Games for persons with intellectual disabilities organised by Special Olympics Bharat Manipur began today at Eastern Ground, Palace Compound.

The games organised under Khelo India Scheme (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports) will be featuring persons with intellectual disabilites from Imphal West.

The opening ceremony of the district game was attended by Prof M Akshayakumar Singh, president, Special Olympics Bharat, Manipur Chapter, Y Ibechaobi Devi, secretary, All Manipur Mentally Handicapped Persons Welfare Organisation, Mongshangei, M Ashwinikumar, president, Parents Association For Differently Abled Manipur and Sharda Devi, Child Protection Officer, Social Welfare Department as presidium members.

About 350 athletes are participating in athletics, aquatics, bocce, badminton, football, floor hockey, table tennis disciplines.

Games for other districts will also be held in February and March said a press release issued by Special Olympics Bharat, Manipur Chapter.
