Model Club cagers outclass MU

Imphal, November 10 2013: Model Club, Chingamakha outclassed Manipur University, Canchi-pur by a margin of 50 to 33 on the opening day of the 1st Ka-lachand Singh Memorial Men's Basketball Championship held at Chingamakha Basketball ground today.

H Radheshyam of Model Club led the scoring with 15 points, while the other scorers for the winning team were H Johnson (8), S Behing (6), K Marjit (5), S Priyobarta (3), H Bobo (2), Sapam Nish-ikanta (2) and Th Gogo (1) .

Interestingly Sapam Nishi-kanta who briefly turned out for Model Club was the chief guest of the function and is a former international basketball players, besides being the publisher of The Sangai Express.

For the losing side, MU, Canchipur Y Babloo led the way with 13 points followed by N Rajiv (11), Angom Jan-gamba (7) and K Loli Augustine (2) .

Initially PHE Minister I Hemochandra, was supposed to be the chief guest of the opening function, but could only make a brief appearance as he had some pressing official matter and left soon after.

The honour of chief guest was then given to Sa-pam Nishikanta, who was earlier supposed to be the guest of honour.

President of Model Club, Chingamakha Haobam Inde-shwor Singh presided over the function while RK Sana-tomba, Secretary of Manipur Basketball Association and Kh (O) Binasakhi turned up as the guests of honour.

Altogether nine teams are in the fray for the championship title.
