Bushan, Shanker progress to HB national tennis quarters

Imphal, August 06 2024: The state duo of Haobam Bushan and Heisnam Shanker advanced to the men's singles event of the Heisnam Basantakumar National Ranking Men's Tennis Championship.

Bushan earned a smooth passage into the last eight with a 6-0 6-1 win over Karnataka's Ganesh Manish in their encounter at Imphal District Tennis Association court, Lamphelpat on Tuesday.

Shanker, on the other hand, beat fellow state player Sagolsem Bhicky 6-3 6-3 on his way to the quarterfinals.

Among the other players who made it to the last eight were Borthakur Abhinansu (West Bengal), Nishith Rahane (Maharashtra), Sarthak Gulati (Pubjab), Suresh Keerthivassan (Tamil Nadu) and Jaya Prakash (Tamil Nadu).

Abhinansu defeated Maharashtra's Pranav Gadgil 6-4 6-2, Rahane outplayed Andhra Pradesh's Gurram Raghu-nandan 6-3 6-0, Gulati eased past Pampari Yagnesh 6-1 6-2, Keerthivassan got the better of Khate Vilasier 6-4 6-4, and Prakash outdid Manish Balaji 6-3 6-1 to progress to the quarterfinals.

The competition, hosted by Manipur Tennis Association and Imphal District Tennis Association, drew 32 players from across the country.
