H Basantakumar Memorial National Ranking Men's Tennis Championship begins

Heisnam Basantakumar National Ranking Men's Tennis Championship kicked off today at Imphal District Tennis Association court in Lamphelpat under the aegis of All India Tennis Association.
The championship is hosted by Manipur Tennis Association and Imphal District Tennis Association and features as many as 32 players from across the country.
The opening day saw 16 players including three from the State- Haobam Bushan, Heisnam Shanker and Sagolshem Bhicky, register wins and progress into the pre-quarterfinals.
In the opening matches played on Court No 2 and No 3, Manish Ganesh of Karnataka, who is seeded 1st, defeated Debasis Sahoo of Odisha 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in a close fight while Jaya Prakash of Tamil Nadu eased 6-1, 6-1 past Mahata Ratul of West Bengal.
Haobam Bushan made it to the last-16 round as Hitesh Yalamanchili of Telangana returned in the second set after the State lad sealed the opening set 6-0 .
5th seeded, S Bhicky meanwhile overwhelmed his Andhra Pradesh rival Madduri Ashok Dattu 6-0, 6-0 to move into the last-16 stage before Sarthak Gulati of Punjab outlasted Sheikh Iftikhar Mohammad 6-3, 6-4 .
Later in the day, Manipur's H Shankar prevailed 6-2, 6-0 over Maharashtra's Achitya Anurag Verma; Suresh Keethivassan of Tamil Nadu outlasted Neelam Devaharshith 6-2, 6-1 and Borthakur Abhinansu of West Bengal saw off Shakir Abdullah of Uttar Pradesh 6-2, 6-0 .
Balaji Manish of Tamil Nadu also registered opening round win as he outlasted Deka Sidhant of Assam 6-2, 7-7 (7) to enter last-16 round as Gadgil Pranav of Maharashtra eased past Aritro Ghosh of West Bengal 6-0, 6-1 and Vilasier Khate of Nagaland prevailed 6-1, 6-3 over Manvir Singh Randhawa of Maharashtra.
Later, Toijam Brojen lost 0-6, 2-6 to Nishith Rahane of Maharashtra before Yagnesh Pampari of Telangana beat Aiswajit Saha of Odisha 6-3, 7-5; Pratush Mohanty of Odisha defeated Arunava Majumdar of West Bengal 6-4, 7-6 (2); Gurram Raghunanda of Andhra Pradesh edged out Santhosh Yuvaraj of Tamil Nadu 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-2 and Tarun Rakshak beat Ramprasath Soundarajan 6-0, 6-3 in an all Tamil Nadu clash.
