Ukhrul readies for Shirui Lily national football

Preparation for Shirui Lily Cup National open Invitation Tournament is in full swing under the aegis of Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner R Sudhan, who is the Chairman of the Organising Committee.
Tangkhul Naga Long Ground where the tournament is to be held is being developed even though a lot of work still remains to make it fit for the ensuing tournament named after the world famous State Flower of Manipur Shirui Lily.
The tournament which started in 1973 as a district level was elevated to State level in 1974 by AMFA consequently upgraded to a national level competition in 2005 by All India Football Federation.
Shirui Lily Cup tournament during its State level stage was sponsored by PWD Chief Engineer Lokendro Singh till 2005.The tournament is now handed over to the family of W Shaiza (former Chief Secretary of Delhi Administration) in memory of their second son late Leiyawung Shaiza.
the ensuing 28th edition of the tournament will offer cash awards of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 for the winners, runners-up and semi finalists respectively.
Sources from UDSA said that teams from four north eastern states of Meghalaya, Assam, Sikkim and Nagaland apart from two local teams of the District and five teams from other Districts of Manipur will compete.
Besides, Sudhan, the Organising Committee also include SP (Ukhrul) K Kabip, SDO Rajen Vishal and functionaries of the UDSA.
