Manipur wins overall team Championship at National Wheelchair Fencing

Imphal, July 27 2013 : Manipur Wheelchair Fencing Team lifted Overall Team Championship trophy by winning a total number of 4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals in the VI National Wheelchair Fencing Championships which was organised by Karnataka Wheelchair Fencing Association under the aegis of Wheelchair Fencing Federation of Indian at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium from 18-21 July, 2013 .

According to a release from Wheelchair Fencing Association of Manipur, Wangkeimayum Sohodeba of Mayang Imphal secured 3 gold medals and also defended his national title in the Men Epee individual event, in the men's category.

Okram Menaka Devi of Singjamei Oinam Thingel defended her national title in the Women Sabre individual and also won a silver medal in Foil Individual event.

S Ratankumar Singh of Langthabal Kunja bagged 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

Chandrakumar Ahanthem of Keishamthong Ahanthem Leikai, Irshad Hussain of Lilong Hungamtabi and S Bijoy Singh of Hiyengthang won 1 gold and one silver medal each.

Md Riyaz Sagar of Hatta Golapatti won a gold and 2 silver medals in the Men's category-B .

The successful Manipur team was trained by International Master K Birendra Singh and led by Dr T Tarunkumar Singh.
