Thoubal, September 25 2019:
There is no dearth of talents in the State, be it in the sports or martial arts or education, but financial worries are often stumbling blocks for these talents to advance to a bigger platform.
MMA athlete Surbala Laishram is one of the local talents whose participation at the IMMAF-WMMAA Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Championship 2019 to be held at Bahrain from November 10 to 17, is still in doubt due to financial constraint.

Surbala, daughter of Laishram Chandra of Khangabok Sorok Wangma was selected by Mixed Martial Arts India (MMAI) for the Bahrain event but the financial condition of her family is certainly not likely to meet her event registration, travel and lodging expenses which amount to around Rs 1.2 lakh.
Thankfully several clubs and organisations are making generous efforts to raise fund for her participation.
Being from a humble background, parents of Surbala are helpless but expressed their strong desire to support their daughter to pursue her dreams and bring laurel to the State.
The parents are now seeking helps from all to ensure Surbala's participation at the event.
Surbala started her career as a taekwondo and kickboxing player and had won 6 medals including 5 gold and 1 bronze medals in the International events and 10 gold medals in the National events before she made her way into the MMA.Surbala was the best fighter at recently concluded Bengaluru MMA Open-2019 .
She also emerged on top in the X1 International All Women's Card straw weight event and bagged two gold medals (52 kg event and open weight) in BJJ Championship.
Surbala is also a Rank 3 Female SJJIF-BJJ South Asia winner.
