Kakching, April 20 2022: Moirangthem Robi Meitei won the Mr Universe India 2022 title.

The contest was held recently at Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra.

An Indian professional bodybuilder, Robi Meitei holds the distinction of being the first Indian to win gold at the Amateur Mr Olympia 2017 and his accomplishments include winning Mr Meghalaya titles in 2011 and 2012, on top of Mr Assam crowns in 2012, 2013 and 2014.In his first international event at the 2014 World Bodybuilding Championship held in Mumbai, he was placed fifth in the under 75kg category.

Some of his major victories include a gold medal at the 2015 Mr Asia in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the 2015 Mr World in Bangkok, Thailand, and a silver medal at the 2016 Amateur Olympia in Hong Kong.

He was the 2018 and 2019 IFBB Diamond Cup, India overall winner and a bronze medallist at the 2019 IFBB World Championship in Dubai, overall champion at the 2019 IBBFF Mr India contest and IFBB Mr Universe India 2022 overall champion.

Moirangthem Robi Meitei, popularly known as Robi, is from Manipur but was born and raised in a middle-class family in Karimganj, Assam as his father was posted there.

He is the son of Moirangthem Manaobi Singh and Rajkumari Sakhensana Devi from Haorang Khunou, Warok Sabal, Lamsang constituency, Imphal West.

He completed his primary and secondary schooling in Karimganj, Assam.

For his higher studies, he moved to the capital city of Meghalaya.

He did his Bsc in electronics from St Edmund's College and Bsc in information technology from Sikkim Manipal University, Shillong.

While pursuing his education in Shillong, he worked as a part-timer in a hotel owned by his gym owner Raju Baruah to meet his expenses and mainly to main tain his diet.
