Sports seminar concludes

The three-day seminar bn the topic 'Development of Sports in North Eastern States' jointly organised by Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Department and Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) concluded today at MFDC auditorium.
The closing session was graced by Home Minister Gaikhangam, MOA president Bijoy Koijam and Handball Federation of India secretary general SM Bali as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In his speech, Gaikhangam noted that absence of adequate modern sports infrastructure is a serious set-back for the sports loving people of Manipur.
Highlighting the need to start training talented youngsters of the region in different sports discipline from tender age, Gaikhangam admitted to groom international level players requires infrastructure and coaches of international standard.
Stating the seminar would give an impetus to sports movement in the North East region, the Home Minister conceded that no significant improvement can be achieved without financial support from the NEC and relevant Ministries as most of the North Eastern are enduing economic difficulties.
Presence of the DoNER Minister and the Chief Minister of Manipur on the opening day of the seminar showed that the Government was committed to a give a boost to sports movement in the North East region.
Certainly, the North East region can evolve into sports capital of the country.
SM Bali said that the seminar provided a common platform for sports personalities of the region to share their problems and prospects.
He exuded that more and more Olympians would come out from the region.
The closing function also featured a technical session.
