JSYC win shoot-out to claim Brig Thomas trophy

J Songtun Youth Club held their nerves to defeat Hengbung Youth Club 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out enroute to claiming the title of the 17th Brigadier Thomas Trophy 2012 football tournament at Thomas Ground, here today.
The month long tournament was organised by Kangpokpi Youth Union under the sponsorship of 61 st Mountain Brigade.
The winning team was awarded the trophy and Rs 30,000 while the runners-up had to be content with half the amount and the shield.
Jampao of the champion team bagged the best scorer award with a competition tally of five goals while his team-mate Boijoy was declared the most promising player.
Man of the championship title went to Helun of Hengbung YC with JSYC's Mangpithang was adjudged the best goalkeeper.
The championship closing ceremony was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Horticulture & Soil Conservation and CADA Vungjagin Valte, Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen and Chief Executive Officer, SHADC/Kpi Chongpu Kipgen as the chief guest, functional President and guest of honour respectively.

Marathe of 14 Assam Rifles of Kangpokpi Post, L Vaiphei, OC Kangpokpi Police, members of Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation and Kangpokpi Youth Union also attended the closing ceremony.
While speaking at the function, V Valte emphasised the need of unity and exhorted the young players to promote peace and harmony through games and sports.
Nemcha Kipgen and Chongpu Kipgen called upon the youth to avoid drugs and underscored the significance of discipline in games and sports.
