Hockey Union and YCCIC emerge champions in 1st DGAR Under-19 Hockey Tournament

The first edition of DGAR Under-19 Hockey Tournament for men and women concluded at the iconic Khuman Lampak Stadium today.
The tournament that began on December 7 brought together six men's and five women's teams from across the State.
The event was a beacon of hope, especially in the backdrop of the crisis situation that has affected normal life for over nineteen months, said PRO of IGAR (S) in a press release.
The tournament aimed at inspiring young athletes and nurturing a sense of camaraderie, thereby demonstrating that sports can transcend divisions and unite communities.
The final matches were played today, amidst the presence of a huge gathering of hockey enthusiasts, it said.
The event was graced by Th Satyabrata Singh, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly as the special guest and Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, Ati Vishit Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Director General of Assam Rifles, as the chief Guest.
Khoirom Loya, president of Manipur Hockey, Major General Ravroop Singh, Sena Medal, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South); Basudev Singh, advisor, Manipur Hockey, ; L Ibomcha Singh, Dronacharya Awardee and Boxing Coach and Brig A Boral, Commander, 9 Sector AR were the other distinguished guests, it said.
Special guest and chief guest felicitated the accomplished Manipuri sportspersons namely L Ibomcha Singh, Dronacharya Awardee, former Boxer and Coach; L Chaoba Devi, former Indian women's football player and coach; Chinglensana Singh, Indian hockey player with accolades in Asian Games and Commonwealth Games; Th Kingson Singh and T Priyobarta Singh, members of the Indian junior men's hockey team which won the Gold Medal in the recent Junior Asia Cup, during the closing ceremony, it said.
Hockey Union and YCCIC emerged men and women's champions as KHSC and MEIRAA were the men and women's runners-up.
The winners were awarded trophies and cash awards of Rs 60,000 each as the runners-up teams received trophies and cash awards of Rs 40,000 each, it added.
