India make history in World Chess C'ships

Imphal, November 15 2015:
Led by Indian Chess team coach Laishram Imocha, India made history by winning the maiden title of World Youth and Cadets Chess Championships which was held from October 24 to November 6 at Porto Carras, Halkidiki, Greece.
India stood top of the medals tally with 11 medals - 5 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Iran claimed the second place with one gold and one bronze medal followed by Bulgaria with one gold and one bronze medal.
M Mahalakshmi (U-18 girls), R Vishali (U-14 girls), Rakshita Ravi (U-10 girls), R Praggnandha (U-10 boys) and H Bharath Subramaniyam (U-8 boys) clinched a gold medal each in their respective events.
V Varshini (U-18 girls), Nihal Sirin (U-12 boys) and Dev Shah (U-8 boys) won silvers while Vantika Agarwal (U-14 girls), Salonika Saina (U-12 girls) and Divya Deshmukh (U-10 girls) bagged a bronze medal each for the Indian team in the championship.
