AITA Championship Series : Chingkhei, Yohenba reach U-14 boys singles quarters

Imphal, December 04 2023: Nongthombam Chingkhei and Keithellakpam Yohenba reached quarter finals of the U-14 boys singles competition in the AITA Championship Series hosted by Imphal District Tennis Association at its Lamphel court.

N Chingkhei got the better of Thoudam Rancher 6-1, 6-4 in an all-Manipuri first round clash today while Yohenba eased past Irungbam Yoimayai 6-0, 6-0 .

Other players securing first round victory in the same competition are Afnan Ahmed of Assam who beat Manipur's Gurumayum Sudarshan 6-3, 6-2 and Ayangdip Medak of Assam who outlasted Maharashtra's Shaunak Shah 7-5, 6-0 .

Top seeded players Aditya Bikram Kaman of Assam, Aaditya Sinha of Meghalaya, Enrich Patar of Assam and Ayyan Rehman of Assam got first round byes.

Meanwhile in the U-16 boys singles competition, Manipur Thiyam Joshua romped past Irungbam Yoimayai 6-0, 6-0 to reach quarter-finals.

Ayangdip Medak also reached the last-8 stage with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Nongthombam Chingkhei.

In the U-16 boys doubles competition, Manipuri pair of G Sudarshan and Thiyam Joshua secured an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Manipur-Maharashtra pair of Thoudam Ranchar and Shaunak Shah to set up semi-final date with Assam-Meghalaya pair of Aditya Bikram Kaman and Aaditya Sinha.

GA Abha Sharma reaches U-14 girls semis

Manipur's Guruaribam Abha Sharma eased into the semi-finals of the U-14 girls singles competition of the series by securing an easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Assam rival Utpalakshee Saikia today.

In other first round matches, top seeded Nayeem Hussain of Assam outlasted Okram Damali 6-1, 6-1 and Devanshi Tamuly of Assam cruised 6-1, 6-1 past Manipur's Saikhom Anjelica.

Devanshi Tamuly also secured a semi-final berth in the U-16 girls singles competition with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Saikhom Ajenlica.

Meanwhile, Naeem Hussan of Assam and Sernya LA of Sikkim will face off against the Assam-Manipur pair of Devanshi and GA Abha in the U-16 girls doubles final.

Naeem Hussan and Sernya LA sealed the final berth with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Changamayum Leithoi and Saikhom Anjelica while Devanshi and Abha outshone another Manipur-Assam pair of Warepam Merliah and Utpalakshee Saikia 6-2, 6-0 .
