Minister Awangbow Newmai opens Inter-School Sports Meet 2024

Senapati, August 04 2024: Senapati District Inter-School Sports Meet 2024, organised by Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), was opened by minister Awangbow Newmai as chief guest.

Also present at the opening ceremony were minister Khashim Vashum, 48-Mao AC MLA L Dikho and 47-Karong AC MLA J Kumo Sha.

In his welcome address, Peter Yunuo, president SDSA, noted that Senapati district has a history of nurturing talented athletes, and the meet celebrates their hard work and dedication.

He urged athletes to compete passionately, respect competitors, and embrace sportsmanship.

Minister Awangbow urged students to express their ambitions to God, stating that sincere prayers will fulfill their dreams.

He emphasised the importance of education for knowledge and not just government jobs.

He also urged support for peace and normalcy amid ethnic violence in the state.

Minister Khashim Vashum stressed on the importance of sports in the hills and urged students to pursue their dreams.

He commended the students for their hard work during school days and praised the resilience of many students unable to attend regular classes due to ethnic violence.

The state chief minister expressed delight at the youth gathering for a sportsmanship event, despite being unable to attend due to unfavourable weather conditions.

He sent cabinet colleagues and MLAs to support the event.

Altogether, 19 different schools across the district are taking part in the Inter-school sports meet, 2024.Earlier, water resources minister Awangbow Newmai inaugurated the office of the SDSA before the commencement of the inaugural event.
