Lamka, February 01, 2013:
The second Integrity Leaders' Football Touma-ment commenced from today at Lamka Public ground with Singngat AC MLA Ginsuanhau, ADCC Chairman Langkhanpau Guite and Lanva MDC Sumlianthang gracing the occasion alongside other local leaders.
Sponsored by the armed groups - KNO and UPF, both of who are now signatories to the Suspension of Operation, the tournament with 12 teams is being organised by the District Sports Association.
Besides the sponsors, the civil police, the journalist union, and joint student leaders will send a team each while tribe based CSOs including the Meitei Society, YMA, HYA, KKL and ZYA will also have their delegations.
Ginsuanhau in his speech reminded the participants of the need to stay united.
"Until and unless we share our objectives and ambitions we are doomed to fail, and our sweats will be in vain," he said in an apparent reference to the impending talks of the SoO groups.
Langkhanpau on his part praised efforts taken up by the KNO and UPF on their determination to replace bullets with footballs.
"For the groups who have at one point of time confronted each other with bullets at any available opportunity, it is laudable that you have now opted to shoot football at each other," he said.
The UPF team outlasted defending champion KNO, 3-1 in today's inaugural exhibition match.
