Governor's Cup Fencing Somirin Alice of Ukhrul wins foil event gold for junior girls

Imphal, August 25 2024: Somirin Alice of Ukhrul bagged the foil event gold medal for junior girls in the 20th Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship 2024 being underway at YAS Fencing Hall, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

Somirin Alice defeated T Mangaleibi of Imphal East 15-13 in a keenly contested final match to win the gold medal.

Somirin reached the final with a 15-4 win over compatriot NK Tamphasana while Mangaleibi of Imphal East got the better of compatriot W Sonia 15-8 to confirm her final ticket.

Baniba of Imphal East meanwhile claimed the epee event gold medal for child boys' category defeating Balmiki 10-3 in the final.

The junior boys' epee individual gold medal went to M Dollar of Ukhrul as he defeated K Dronel of Imphal East 15-12 in the final today.

Dollar reached the final with a 15-13 win over K Ramakanta of Imphal West in the semi-final while K Dronel got the better of Senapati's K Kane 15-13 .

L Abhi in the meantime bagged the junior girls sabre event gold.

She defeated P Ambika 15-5 in an all Imphal East final clash to seal the gold medal.
