State off to flying start at 5th Elite Women National Boxing Championship

Manipur's campaign in the 5th Elite Women National Boxing Championship got off to a resounding start as four state pugilists shone in their respective bouts on Thursday at St Joseph's International School in Hisar, Haryana.
Sarjubala Shamjetsabam, Ojibala Thounaojam, Baby Rojisana Naorem and Samim Banu Khulakpham all enjoyed winning starts on the first day of the championship.
Sarjubala Shamjetsabam outpunched her Tamil Nadu opponent BR Pavithra Raju in the first round of the 48-50kg category.
Samim Banu, on the other hand, made light work of Padma Kitzom of Ladakh in the 54-57 kg group.
Banu beat her opponent by RSC.
Also, Ojibala Thounaojam proved too strong for Shivani of Punjab as the state boxer won their 50-52kg bout by RSC.
Rojisana Naorem, however, was made to work hard to carve out a 3-2 win over Andhra Pradesh's Sonu in the 52-54kg category.
