Imphal, January 11 2013:
In A keenly contested quarter final round match played today, Assam Regimental Centre (ARC) blanked North Imphal Sporting Association (NISA), Thangmeiband with a solitary goal and became the first team to enter semi final round of the ongoing 56th Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament (CC Meet) organised by AMFA at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
Both teams played the match with determination to win and enter into the semi final round.
The solitary winning goal of ARC was scored by Bobychand in the 15th minute of the match.
On the other hand, NISA who had once won the champion's title didn't lose their hearts even though it was a tough match with an equally talented team and played the match with a hope to equalise the score and claim back the situation.
However, time was running out of their hands as they could not found chances to get behind the defence of their opponnent to get even.
All their efforts went in vain with the final whistle of the referee and they have to leave the field with a heavy heart.
On the other hand, ARC team who is participating in the tournament after 12 years were full of joys and hopes to win the tournament with today's hard won victory.
Kangjamba of ARC, K Ajitkumar and ZV Hoopok of NISA were awarded a yellow cards each for playing fouls during the match.
ARC coach, Jembo (NIS), AFC-C license holder, a Manipuri who is serving as Havildar in the Assam Regiment told Hueiyen Lanpao that his team is participating in the tournament after a long gap of 12 years.
It was in the year 2000 when his team got defeated to SSB in the semi final round.
Since then, ARC has been unable to participate in the tournament due to the prevailing law and order situation in the state as well as the North East.
The ARC team has 12 players from Manipur who are all young and energetic.
However his team lack proper coordination as they are a bunch of recruits and young personnel, Jembo said.
He further said that his team will play the next match better and he has his belief that his team will enter the final.
However nothing can be said about the final match since his team is a bunch of young players.
But they will give their best performance to win the trophy.
Speaking about today's match, Jembo said that NISA is a good team indeed and they have renowned player M Bijen too.
But the main reason for their loss in today's match is their lack of speed and on the other hand, fast speed is the key his team won the match today, he added.
Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU), Kwakeithel and Assam Rifles will play the next uarter final match tomorrow at
Mapal Kangjeibung 1t a.15 pm.
