AR hosts final of Sepoy Nicholas Moyon Memorial Football Tournament

Imphal, December 08 2024: The Assam Rifles successfully organized the final of the Late Sepoy Nicholas Moyon (1st Naga Regt) Memorial Football Tournament at the Ziontlang Football Ground yesterday.

The event that began on December 2 was held in collaboration with the District Sports Association, Chandel, and it highlighted the vibrant football culture of the region with participation from 21 teams, said PRO IGAR (S) in a press release.

The tournament served as a vital platform for young talent to showcase their skills while fostering unity and camaraderie within the community.

The final attracted an enthusiastic audience of approximately 250 spectators, who witnessed an exhilarating match where Cheengu FC emerged victorious over Khanku FC in a dramatic penalty shootout, it said.

Dignitaries who witnessed the final included family member of Late Sepoy Nicholas Moyon; Kh Ibomcha, MLA Lamlai (chief guest), along with the DIG of Sector Headquarter, Assam Rifles and India international Grace Dangmei as special guest.

This tournament not only celebrated the legacy of Late Sepoy Nicholas Moyon but also reinforced the importance of sports in promoting community spirit and nurturing local talent, it continued.
