Mehul hits unbeaten 138 and takes five to hand ESU 160 run victory

An excellent all round performance by Chongtham Mehul helped Eastern Sporting Union (ESU), Wangkhei Palace Compound overwhelm SDC, Laipham Khunou by 160 runs for its fourth win on trot in the group stage competition of the 5th MNCA Plate Tournament at Langthabal Public Ground today.
The win also assured ESU a place in the quarter finals from Group D and obviously a promotion to the Super Plate Group.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, ESU posted a mammoth total of 305 runs for 4 in 35 overs riding on Mehul's unbeaten 138 (off 113 balls), Herojit's 62-ball 69 and Nishikanta's 43 as SDC bowlers fail to contain the outburst.
Subhachandra, Vishal and Kiran managed a wicket each in this innings before they bundled out for 145 in 31.5 overs.
SDC suffered an early blow losing two wickets in reply and Lemba tried to repair the damage with a half century (58 off 80) .
But it was of no use as Chongtham Mehul enjoyed a five wicket haul (for 22 runs in 7 overs) including Lemba's wicket.
Deepak also added 25 runs and remained not out in this innings which saw ESU's Hemchand and Chittaranjan picking up two wickets each.
Mehul was eventually named man of the match.
In the Group B league match staged at Moijing playground, KCC, Kongba earned its second win by beating YWC, Patsoi by 159 runs.
KCC chose to bat first and posted a commanding total of 254 runs at the cost of 5 wickets in their quota of 35 overs and restricted YWC to 95 all out in 28.3 overs.
KCC's Mranojit blazed off 80 runs in 69 balls before Sanjit topscored with 82 in 79 balls and Vikash added 39 runs.
Dijiraj was on 21 not out to help the team post a grand total.
Ramo of YWC took two wickets as Khedabarth and Rocket chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Gopeshwor 13, Johnson 17 and Thoungamba 15 were the only player who could get their score past 10 in YWC's chase as Robertson (3/16 in 7 overs which include two maidens), Sanjit (3/18 in 7 overs which include a maiden) and Basantakumar (2/18) of KCC bowled exceptionally well.
K Sanjit with 82 runs and 3 wickets in his name was named man of the match.
Elsewhere at Model Higher Secondary and Oriental College ground, KSDO earned its third Group (D) stage victory by defeating PSC, Khuyathong by 96 runs.
KSDO, after let to bat first, stacked up 181 runs for 10 in 35 overs riding on Nawaz Sharif (33) and Shah Nawaz (20) and then held PSC to 85 all out in 25.5 overs through Tarique (3/23 in 7 overs) and Shah Nawaz (3/13 in 4.5 overs).
Prasantajit of PSC claimed three wickets in KSDO's innings and his compatriots Rajbihari, Martin and Kenny claimed two wickets each.
Vicky of PSC with 21 runs, was the highest run getter of PSC in the chase which also saw Karim of KSDO dismiss two and Shamir and Lakimbur fetch a wicket apiece.
Tarique of KSDO who enjoyed a three wicket haul to obstruct PSC chase was named man of the match.
