2nd Indigenous Naga wrestling C'ship concludes

The 2nd District Junior Indigenous Naga wrestling Championship concluded in style at Artificial football turf ground, Senapati DHQ.
Sh Hriikhelou of Phuba Khuman retained the heavyweight title.
He managed to defend the title against S Vilah of Chingmai Khullen as PJ Pavei of Tungjoy claimed the middleweight title by defeating the former champion Veikho Dule of Saranamei.
David of Tunggam Khullen was crowned lightweight category winner after defeating Ava Hrai of Paomata Centre in the final.
The winners in all the three categories walked away Rs 35,000 richer while runner up players were feted with Rs 25,000 each besides citations.
The three day events for U-20 wrestlers was organised by the Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM) in collaboration with the Indian Army.
The event saw participation of 69 athletes belonging to five different communities of Senapati district and one athlete from Noney.
The closing ceremony was graced by Col Dahiya, Camp Commandant Military Station Senapati as the chief guest, in the presence of many eminent dignitaries and school students and wrestling enthusiasts of the district.
Col Dahiya said he was honoured and proud to take part in the event and complimented the mesmerizing cultural items presented by Somang School, Onaeme Taphou students during the closing programme.
Col Dahiya also assured to look into two memoranda submitted by SDWAM seeking provision for induction of sportsperson into service and infrastructural assistance.
The championship came to a close with a melodious army band display and prize distribution to the winners.
