Basantakumar Memorial National Ranking Tennis : Bushan, Shanker progress into quarters

Imphal, August 06 2024: Manipur's Haobam Bushan and Heisnam Shanker progressed into the quarterfinals of the Heisnam Basantakumar Memorial National Ranking Men's Tennis Championship being hosted by Manipur Tennis Association and Imphal District Tennis Association (IDTA) at IDTA Lawn Tennis complex in Lamphelpat.

Bushan made it to the last-8 stage of the competition with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Karnataka's Manish Ganesh today while Shanker outlasted Sagolshem Bhicky 6-3, 6-3 in an all Manipur pre-quarter final clash.

Bushan will meet Shanker in the quarterfinal.

Borthakur Abhinansu of West Bengal who overwhelmed Shakir Abdullah of Uttar Pradesh in the first round match yesterday, also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Pranav Gadgil of Maharashtra today.

Borthakur will meet Rahane of Maharashtra, who defeated Gurram Raghunandan of Andhra Pradesh 6-3, 6-0 in another pre-quarter final clash, in the quarterfinal match.

Punjab's Sarthak Gulati, who knocked out Sheikh Iftikhar Mohammad of Assam yesterday, also made it to the quarterfinals with an easy 6-1, 6-2 win over Pampari Yagnesh of Telangana today.

He will meet either Pratush Mohanty of Odisha or Tarun Rakshak of Tamil Nadu in the quarterfinals.

The day also saw Suresh Keethivassan of Tamil Nadu enter quarterfinals with a hardfought 6-4, 6-4 win over Vilasier Khate of Nagaland.

Suresh will face off against compatriot Jayaprakash, who edged out Manish Balaji, another Tamil Nadu player, 6-3, 6-1 today in the last-16 round, for a place in the semi-final.
