Boxer Sarjubala to spearhead Indian challenge at Asian meet

In the absence of ace boxers MC Mary Kom and Laishram Sarita Devi, 2014 World Championships silver medalists Sarjubala Devi (48kg) and Saweety (81kg) will spearhead the Indian challenge at the Asian Boxing Championships to be start in Wulanchabu, China schedule from Thursday.
Reports on Thursday said Pinki, silver medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, is other Indian pugilist in the squad.
Pooja in 75kg will be other strong medal contender.
The current squad comprised of: Sarjubala Devi (48kg), Pinki Rani (51kg), Meena Kumari Devi (54kg), Pwilao Basumatary 57kg, Priyanaka Chaudhary 60kg, Pavitra (64kg), Monica Saun (69kg), Pooja Rani (75kg), Saweety (81kg), Seema Poonia (81+kg) .
Mary Kom and Laishram Sarita Devi will not be part of the squad, the 10-member women's Indian team left on Monday with high hopes.
The continental championships is likely to attract some top-level competition as apart from India, China, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand, and South Korea will also be in the fray.
Four-time Asian champion Mary will miss the meet as she is focusing on Rio Olympics and wants to play only a few events before the quadrennial Games.
Five-time continental champion Sarita, on the other hand, is serving world boxing body's year-long suspension for refusing her bronze medal at the Asian Games last year.
