RAU, UPAA emerge victorious in IE Super Divn League

Imphal, July 28 2019: RAU, Lairikyengbam Leikai earned a narrow 1-0 win against KIYC, Kshetri Awang Leikai while UPAA, Kyamgei held off XI Star SU, Akampat 2-1 today at ABA ground, Kshetrigao in the ongoing Maharajkumar Ghanendrajit Memorial Super Division League organised by Imphal East District Football Association.

The 6th league match of the tournament saw RAU beat KIYC 1-0 with the help of a late goal to post their first win after two defeats in the earlier fixtures.

Both KIYC and RAU started the game slowly and went into the break goalless.

There was not much to offer from both the teams in the second half as well despite few chances but Michel's goal in the 86th minute changed the scenario and helped RAU earn all three points.

Meanwhile in the second match of the day and the tournament's 7th, UPAA led the first half 1-0 before M Oken ensured the 2-1 win against XI Star SU, Akampat.

In a remarkable team work, Ratan connected a pass from Kh Sanjoy inside the box rifled home the opener early in the 7th minute to put UPAA ahead in the first half.

The lead was however cancelled by the Akampat side in the 62nd minute with the help of A Suranjoy.

XI Star SU looked positive to surge after the equaliser but UPAA which made the most of the possession from early period withstood the pressure before M Oken helped the team to retain the lead in the 72nd minute.

XI-Star SU toiled hard to draw level pouring in more men in the latter part of the game but could not make the most of their chances enabling UPAA register their second win at the tournament.

XI-Star SU's W Nandeshwor (36') and Bablu (90+2') were yellow carded for their unsporting behaviours.

Matches to follow at ABA Ground, Kshetrigao .

Meanwhile, Imphal East District Football Association has informed that the following four league matches of the ongoing tournament will be held at ABA Ground, Kshetrigao.

YOSC will take on RAU in the 8th league match of the tournament at 1 pm on July 31 and the 9th match will be played between SAK and KIYC latter at 3 pm.

PYA will play RAU in the 10th match at 1 pm on August 2 before UPAA take on KIYC at 3 pm.

Imphal East District Football Association also informed all teams to report to the match commissioner at least 1 hour before the schedule time.
