2nd Governor's Trophy Mukna Kangjei Tournament begins

Imphal, March 27 2019: The 2nd edition of Governor's Trophy State Level Mukna Kangjei Tournament 2019 organised by Kreeda Bharati Manipur kicked off today at Mapal Kangjeibung with 5 district teams of the State taking part in it.

The tournament participated by teams from Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching and Thoubal districts was inaugurated in the presence of Dr L Ibungohal Singh, pracharak Manipur Prant; G Tombi Sharma, vice president, Kreeda Bharati Manipur and M Chourjit Singh, secretary, All Manipur Mukna Association as dignitaries.

The opening match of the knock-out tournament saw Imphal East outlast Bishnupur by 11-4 margin to ensure their place in the semi-final.

Imphal East took a comfortable 6-1 lead against Bishnupur in the first half of the game which witnessed 7 players each side made their stand clear.

Imphal East whose side were seen to be more active and experienced continued to dominate the game in the second half and completed the 11-4 victory.

Imphal East's Kh Ibungobi shone with 5 goals in this match and his compatriot Th Dinku scored three goals to set up the huge win.

Kh Arun, H Dinesh and M Angou also added one goal each for the team.

As for the Bishnupur side, Saikhom Leishemba scored two goals while Arnold and S James managed one goal each.

Kakching District will meet Thoubal District in the first semi-final tomorrow at 2.30 pm while Imphal East will face Imphal West in the last semi-final match latter at 3.30 pm .
