L Ranjan, Chaoba Devi win 11th Mega Marathon

L Ranjan won the men’s open category while Chaoba Devi claimed the women’s open category in the 11th Mega Marathon organised by United Peoples Front, Manipur under the auspices of Atheletic Association Manipur today under the theme, “Run for your nation, run mega marathon” .
Around 1,700 athletes from Manipur and beyond took part in today’s marathon which was flagged off from Khuman Lampak Main Stadium .
Laithangbam Ranjan, ASI- Pune, clocked one hour, three minutes and 46 seconds holding off the challenge of Somong Raman from Ukhrul who finished second in 1:14:06.Khudongbam Romajit from Khundrakpam finished third, clocking 1:14:26 .

Ranjan got richer by Rs 40,000.The cash prize was sponsored by RK Noyonsana Devi, Ex-Chairperson, Manipur State Social Welfare Board in memory of his late son Jayadev Gurumayum along with a citation and certificate.
Somong Raman received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 sponsored by Huirem Ibomcha Singh in memory of his late father, Huirem Angachou.
Romajit was given Rs 20,000 in cash .
12 athletes in merit who got a cash prize of Rs 3,000 each are – N Ojit, Yairipok, Md Amir Khan, Yairipok, Ningthoujam Bijesh, Naran-sena, Kshetrimayum Herojit, Naransena, Mohit Abidalmed, Lilong, Naorem Tokyo, Pu-khrambam, Md Sadik, Thou- bal, Khumanthem Narajit, Heirok, Naorem Nanao, Palel, Ngachonso Chomroi, Ukhrul, Sorokhaibam Yaiphaba, Wangjing and Md Jahir, Phundrei .
In women’s category Chaoba Devi from Luwang-shangbam successfully tou- ched the finishing line at Khuman Lampak in one hour, thirty six minute and 29 second and claimed first prize of Rs 40,000 in cash sponsored by Nongthombam Noren Singh, Chief Engineer-PWD in memory of his late son N Korouhanba with a citation and certficate .
Bibicha Devi of Manipur Police Sports clocked 1:43:11 to claim the second prize of Rs 30,000 while Ajima from Lilong claimed the third prize of Rs 20,000 making a podium finish in 1:44:41 .
Other competitors who won the consolation prize are – S Rebika , Grace Y, H Bhumeshori, Ksh Ronika, L Chaoba, N Sunita, Salam Sonia, S Romi Chanu, M Ranjana, W Galena, A Ranisa , H Chaoba.
They also received a cash prize of Rs 3,000 each along with citation and certificate.
