Red Shield football tournament held

The Red Shield Football tournament was held on March 18 at Potsangbam football ground, Bishnupur conducted by N Khonou Battalion of the Loktak Brigade.
According to a statement issued by PIB, Defence, Imphal, the opening ceremony was hugely attended by locals from nearby villages.
The inaugural game of the tournament was played between SWA Thanga and TYDAFA Toubal.
Amidst loud cheering by devoted fans of the teams, the keenly contested match witnessed both teams fighting it out displaying great sportsmanship and football skills.
SWA drew first blood but TYDAFA equalized by a fine header from an unmarked player.
The first half saw both teams tied 1-1 .
Second half saw both SWA and TYDAFA looking to score right from the word go.
However, it was SWA which got the better off and took a lead through a penalty kick.
Chance for an equalizer did come in dying minutes of the game for TYDAFA but was missed.
The final score of the game was 2-1 in favour of SWA.
The two weeks of football extravaganza featured 16 teams contesting in a gruelling pool cum knockout format.
With no second chance, teams will have to prove their mettle ensuring that their performance on "Match Day" is supreme to progress to the next stage.
The tournament was organised under the aegis of RED SHIELD DIVISION to promote the rich sports culture in Manipur and ensure the nurturing and development of sporting talent at grassroots level, it added.
