MNCA Plate Tournament : Shangkar guides WYC to 60 run victory

WYC, Thoubal Wangkhem rode on Sougrakpam Shangkar's all round performance to cruise to 60 run victory against SSU, Singjamei Kakwa in the ongoing 5th MNCA Plate Tournament 2021 .
This win at Model Higher Secondary and Oriental College ground was the fourth straight win for the Wangkhem side in the Group C competition of the tournament.
Having won the toss, WYC opted to bat first and put up a modest total of 219 runs for 9 in 35 overs.
Though most of the WYC batsmen failed to make their marks, Sougrakpam Shangkar struck a brilliant 102 (off 61 balls) which was studded with 13 fours and 4 sixes.
SSU's Chungkham Gugu (3/26) and Sougrakpam Demin Singh (3/31) impressed all with their bowling before they slumped to 159 for 6 in the chase.
SSU's chase saw Lenin Thounaojam trying his best with a 85-ball 56 but WYC bowlers were successful in maintaining exemplary economy.
Sougrakpam Shangkar who shone with a century also bagged two wickets and eventually earned the man of the match accolade.
Meanwhile at Langthabal Public Ground, TCMDC, Thongju earned a hard fought 1 wicket win against IBSA, Yumnam Leikai.
IBSA after being let to bat first, bundled out on 169 in 38.2 overs before TCMDC forged 172 for 9 in 36.5 overs second win in the last Group A encounter.
Usham Robinson Singh shone with a half century for IBSA in their innings which saw Yumnam Sheiteendra pick up four and Thongam Nganthoi scalp 3.Meanwhile in the chase, Sarangthem Priyobarta and Thongam Nganthoi scored 49 and 39 runs respectively to help TCMDC cross the target hardly as IBSA bowling led by Wanglem Namet (3 wickets for 22 runs) gave the Thongju line up a tough time.
Elsewhere at Moijing playground, YUCC-Kwakeithel Moirangpurel ended their Group B campaign with a 75 run victory against YWC-Patsoi.
W Lenin (66), Ningthoujam Sanjit (51) and Kadamjit Moirangthem (50) all score half centuries to help YUCC collect 256 for 7 in their quota of 40 overs.
Angom Sanjoy Singh was the best bowler, YWC-Patsoi had today as he picked up two wickets before YUCC bowlers rattled through their batting line up to hold their chase at 181 in 37.1 overs.
Laishram Bikash of YUCC scalped three offering 17 runs in 3 overs in this innings while N Sanjit shone with the best bowling figure of 8-1-23-3 (3 wickets for 23 runs in 8 overs) .
