State fighters gear up for WAR-DOG MMA Fight Series

When it comes to sport, be it Olympic sports or any combat sports, armed or unarmed, which are being recognised by Sports Ministry or not, Manipuri players have always stood up and upheld the spirit of sportsmanship with entire dedication if found suitable.
Keeping the same spirit alive, three fighters (martial arts) who have been struggling hard to gain recognition for so long will be seen participating in the WAR DOG MMA Fight Series which will kick starts on June 30 this year in Kolkata.
Manipuris are born fighters and proving it, the State has produced many successful players in combat sports like; judo, wrestling, taekwondo, boxing, wushu, jiu-jitsu etc and they have earned name and fame for their performances in the National and international arenas.
Though MMA, an acronym of Mixed Martial Arts, which involves applications of techniques and moves of the disciplines mentioned above or few other martial arts, is not considered an sporting event for a cricket crazed country like India, it has set foot in India with the organisation of similar events like Clash of Champions, Super Fight League etc and had given martial arts lovers in the country a way of earning recognition and decent livelihoods.
With the growing popularity of MMA, Manipur has also witnessed successful organisation of Manipur fight league with 40 fighters making their way into professional fighting.
Under the proper guidance of Frank Nandeibam (who is considered as the MMA pioneer in the State), Takhellambam Sunil Singh and Aribam Rupachandra (Fighter analyst and strategist), three fighters namely Laishram Surbala (52 kg), Laishram Bidyachandra and pro-fighter Meinam Roshan are preparing hard for the WAR DOG MMA Fight Series which will be held at Kolkata's Khudiram Anushilan Kendra.
Surbala hails from Khangabok Sorok Wangba is ensuing graduate course at YK College, Wangjing.
The only 21 year old fighter is born to Laishram Chandra and Laishram (O) Anita Devi and started career as a kickboxer while she was reading in the seventh standard at KM Blooming School in 2010.She has won medal in many National events and have represented India as kickboxer on three occasions, twice in 2015 and another in 2017.She had her MMA fighting debut in the Manipur Fight League which was held last month in Imphal.
Laishram Bidyachandra, aged 21 (62 kg) who is bom to Laishram Borsingh and Laishram (O) Pishakmacha of Ahallup Bamdiyar also set his journey into martial arts as a Muay Thai player in 2006 and has won 5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals in eight National competitions he participated before switching himself to MMA in 2017 .
He has featured in the Muay Thai Pro and Manipur Fight league as professional fighter.
Meinam Roshan who has become sensational MMA fighter appearing in the Super Fight League held this year in Miarch will be appearing in the WAR-DOG Fight Series as well in the 62 kg category.
Roshan who is also serving as an instructor in Bangalore is a resident of Thoubal Wangmataba Sorok Mathak and born to Meinam Shyamkanhai and Meinam (O) Ibemhal Devi.
