ELSA to face AMOFA Academy in Moirang 1st Divn League final

Imphal, November 15 2019: Chinglen's scored in the second half to help ELSA, Naranseina win 1-0 against Kumbi FC and set up final date of the 1st L Kerani Memorial 1st Division Football League 2019 with AMOFA Academy, Moirang which defeated Moirang United by 5-3 goals on penalties in another semi-final clash today at Moirang Multipurpose Ground.

The first semi-final match of the tournament saw ELSA and Kumbi FC keep things tight from the beginning of the match and deny any chance with timely tackling and interceptions to make the scoreline read 0-0 till the break.

ELSA however entered the field with more purpose after the restart and pushed more men forward to pile more pressure on their rivals and their move eventually rewarded them with the lead in the 54th minute when Chinglen went deep into rivals box and found the target.

ELSA then made a moderate approach to keep their lead intact while keeping close eyes on lapses on the part of the Kumbi side defence.

As Kumbi FC could not breach past ELSA defence and find the leveller, the latter team finished the game 1-0 and made themselves through to the final.

Meanwhile the second semi-final was a dreary run from both AMOFA Academy and Moirang United and the game was decided via penalty shoot out after the two sides played out a goalless draw till the end of the normal time.

The game also saw K Gunen of M United receive second yellow and send off the field in the 55th minute.

In the shoot-out, Dividson, Sunil, Benzonson, Niteshkumar and Naobi found the target to hand AMOFA Academy the final ticket as only M Santosh, H Michael and A Bikramjit converted their shots for Moirang United.

The two finalists will face off for the title of the tournament on November 20 at 1 pm at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School Ground.
