AS Khangapam wins men's singles and doubles titles, Wungmayo Vashum walks away with three titles
AS Khangapam of Kamjong bagged both the men's singles and doubles titles in the 1st Thongam Ibetombi Devi Memorial Non-State Badminton Tournament 2024 as the tournament came to an end today at MBA Indoor Hall, DMU Campus.
AS Khangapam clinched the men's singles title beating Rajkumar Thoungamba 21-17, 21-13 today in the final before he paired up with U-17 boys' champion Pouchundibou Newmai of Tamenglong to beat Soibam Mishan and Thingom Theam of Imphal West for the men's doubles crown.
Earlier in the day, AS Khangapam reached the men's singles final with a 27-29, 21-18, 21-16 win over Soram Arbin of Thoubal while RK Thoungamba made it to the final with a 21-10, 21-19 win over Atom Powerman of Imphal East.
Meanwhile, Pouchindibou Newmai had claimed the U-17 boys title with a 21-7, 22-20 win over Th Sanju Singha of Jiribam in the final.
On the other hand, Ashangbam Devika of Imphal West sealed the U-17 girls' singles title by defeating compatriot Yumnam Helina 21-10, 21-1 in the final.
Wungmayo Vashum wins U-19 boys singles, doubles and mixed doubles title
Wungmayo Vashum and Charanai Rozina emerged mixed doubles champions in the tournament after beating Buhbu Landumai and Veronica Inka in all Senapati final clash today.
Wungmayo Vashum had earlier claimed the U-19 boys singles title with a 21-8, 21-10 win over Mangal Laishram of Imphal West.
Wungmayo completed his treble with Lidu Paote as they defeated Ksh Began and L Diamond 21-14, 21-14 in the U-19 boys doubles final.
Ningthoujao, Surkumar claim above 35, 40 men's singles titles
Sanjenbam Ningthoujao of Imphal West and Sagolshem Surkumar of Imphal East topped the above 35 and 40 years men's singles title in the tournament which began on May 27 .
Ningthoujam claimed the 35+ men's singles title by defeating compatriot Tikendrajit Ningombam 21-12, 21-11 while Surkumar clinched the 40+ singles crown by securing a 21-15, 21-12 win over Waikhom Santosh of Thoubal.
Salam Joyraj (U-9 Boys), Vinci Namram (U-9 girls), Christina Sinam (U-15 girls), Danish Tekcham (U-15 Boys), Luckleiphi Pharung (U-13 girls ), Sorokhaibam Lanhenba (U-13 boys), Jia Sananbam (U-11 girls), Shannon Loitongbam (U-11 boys), Khwairakpam Memi (40+ women's), Khwairakpam Ranjit (50+ men's), Narengbam Sunder (45+ men's), Thongam Ibotomba (60+ men's) also emerged singles champions in their respective categories.
The pair of K Anish Kumar and Mahesh Laishram (U-13 boys), Danish Tekcham and N Alex (U-15 boys), M Somorendro and Y Raj (U-17 boys), Vandam Thoitak Chiru and Namyineile Pame (U-17 mixed), S Ningthoujao and N Tikendrajit (35+ men's), K Dineshkumar and Kh Hooter (40+ men's), P Krishnakumar and P Romesh (45+ men's), M Ibocha and P Meipak (50+ men's), Austi Mangte and Md Gaffar (55+ men's) and H Kumar and Th Ibotomba (60+ men's) also emerged doubles champions in their respective age groups.
