Revenue Minister encourages young players

CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam on Saturday encouraged young players to give their best in sports as well as education to shine the State in National and international arenas.
Speaking as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 8th Yumnam Rashmani Memorial Under-15 and Under- 17 Girls 7-A Side Hockey Tournament at Ibudhou Marjing Ground, Kontha Ahallup, the Minister said the State players are performing remarkably.
"Manipur is performing remarkably well amongst the States of India in the field of sports.
The State is proud to have 17 Olympians, 19 Arjuna Awardees, 3 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardees, one Dronacharya Awardee and one Dhyanchand Awardee.
Mary Kom and Oinam Bembem had been conferred the Padma Shri for their outstanding contribution in sports," he said adding all these achievements is because of the hardwork of the players and the blessings of the people.
He also called for promotion of different sports disciplines including hockey in Manipur.
Raising concern about the issue of drug abuse among youth, the Minister said local clubs, voluntary organizations and the people should put in collective efforts to save the State from the crisis of drug abuse and drug-addiction.
He also informed that the Chief Minister had earlier expressed his intention to expand the Ibudhou Marjing Ground.
He presented financial award to the winners, runners up team and the organizers of the tournament.
Imphal East DC Adhyaksha P Bimola Devi and Social Welfare Director Ng Uttam also attended the closing function.
The tournament was organised by YCCIC, Kontha Ahallup under the aegis of Manipur Hockey.
