Imphal, January 15 2022:
YUCC, Kwakeithel and YWC, Langthabal got off to winning starts on the opening day of the 3rd MNCA U-16 Boys Naorem Rajningthou Memorial Trophy 2021-22 .
In the opening match of the cricket tournament (30 over an innings) staged at YCWO ground, Heinoupok, YUCC registered a commanding 176 run victory over PTRC, Patsoi as Thoiba starred with a blistering knock of 63-ball 139 .
YUCC were let to bat first and posted a total of 259 runs for 9 in 27.4 overs with Thoiba's century and sensible battings by Ricky (34 off 42 balls) and Prakash (26 off 23 balls).
Stoneson (3/34 in 4.4 overs) and Nongdam (3/49 in 6 overs) of PTRC bowled well in this innings and shared three wickets each while Tamarland was able snatched two wickets for 28 runs in 5 overs.
PTRC, batting order however failed horribly and eventually bundled out for 83 runs in 23.3 overs as Joyhenba of YUCC led the bowling attack to finish with 3 wickets for 16 runs in 6 overs.
Only, Tamarland (21), Lann (12) and Nongdamba (12) made it to the scoresheet with double digit scores for PTRC as the four got out on ducks and others fell cheaply.
Other YUCC bowlers also bowled economically as Rahulkumar picked one wicket and spared only 3 runs in his spell of 3 overs which contained 2 maidens besides Lohitson (1/14 in 3 overs), Prakash (1/30 in 6 overs) and Medhajit (1/2 in 1 over) contributing well to their cause.
Thoiba who shone with a century was eventually named man of the match.
Meanwhile, at ABA Ground, Kshetrigao, YWC-L posted a narrow 1 wicket win over PCC, Mayaikoibi.
PCC won the toss and elected to bat first but disciplined bowling efforts by YWC restricted PCC to a meager 97 runs for 8 wickets in 30 overs.
Robinson of YWC scalped thrice for 22 runs in 6 overs and Yohenba claimed two for 16 runs in 4 overs in PCC's innings where in Max and Vikash added 18 runs each and Lucky, Pravesh and Anjan Singh scored 10 runs each to make it to the list of double digit scorers.
In reply, YWC-L too faced a disastrous hard losing top order in regular intervals but held their nerves late on and managed to reach the target in 23.3 overs with only one wicket left in their hands.
Thoithoiba with 17 runs was the highest run getter for the Langthabal team while his compatriots, S Robinson and Albert scored 11 runs each.
Ajay was furious in his bowling and dismissed three crucial wickets of YWC giving only 9 runs in his spell of 5 overs but it went in vain as their tally proved insignificant.
PCC's Paikhomba and Anjan also took two wickets each and Vikash and Lucky shared a wicket apiece in a losing cause.
