East Zone Inter University Men's Badminton Tournament : VBSP University emerge champions, MU finish third

Imphal, November 10 2024: Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal (VBSP) University, Jaunpur, UP emerged on top of the East Zone Inter University Badminton Tournament 2024-25 for Men hosted by National Sports University, Imphal at Khuman Lampak Indoor Hall as Manipur University (MU) finished third.

VBSP University won three of three matches in the final league round of the zonal event to seal the top position as Jadavpur University, West Bengal finished runners up with 2 wins.

Manipur University, meanwhile, registered a win in three matches to finish third as Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar (BRAB) University, Bihar finished winless to occupy fourth place.

In the final league round matches, VBSP defeated Jadavpur University 3-0 to open their account before defeating Manipur University 3-1 and BRAB University 3-1 in the following matches.

Jadavpur University meanwhile made a comeback by defeating BRAB University before Defeating Manipur University 3-1 in their final encounter.

The only win for MU came against BRAB University yesterday as they pulled off a comeback 3-2 win.

Ch Ritesh had earned first score for MU defeating Tushar Kumar Setu of the Bihar University 20-22, 21-17, 21-17 but BRAB draw level as Salam Stearly went down 14-21, 19-21 in the second singles match.

Ch Ritesh and Chirom Vikson then defeated Md Tabrez and Tushar Kumar Setu 21-16, 21-18 in the following doubles match to retain the lead for MU but K Nganba went down 15-21, 9-21 to Sameer Raj in the following singles match to concede the lead.

H Rohenkumar and RK Alen however pulled off a 21-18, 23-21 win in the deciding doubles match to earn MU a 3-2 win.

Yesterday in the qualifying round, MU got the better of Dibrugarh University 3-1 to make it to the last 4 final league round.

Jadavpur University meanwhile edged out Adamas University 3-2, BRAB University outlasted University of Calcutta 3-1 and VSBP University overwhelmed NSU, Manipur 3-0 to enter the final league round.
