FootGal Day 2 : Big wins for favourites LC, HoMES BS

Sursa Athletic Club and Lalpuithluai FS FC shared the spoils while HoMES Boarding School and favourites Lenlai Club registered convincing victory against their respective opponents on Thursday in the second day of FootGal tournament organised by District Administration, Churachandpur at Rayburn High School campus.
The second edition of FootGal (5 A-side girls night Futsal) began yesterday with eye-catching opening ceremony at Rayburn High School campus under the auspices of District Administration, Churachandpur.
The tournament, with the theme 'Girls Power, Bring it on' is Churachandpur District Administration's endeavour to promote girl child through Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
The tournament which would be held till October 19 will see 25 strong teams vying for the title.
The inaugural of the FootGal 2019 got off with glitz and glamour show as Kimboi Paite and performers from 'We Dance Academy' mesmerized the packed crowds with their scintillating performances.
The light drizzle before the start of the programme could not dampen the spirit of the sports enthusiasts as the crowd became larger at the count of every minute.
Speaking at the occasion, V Hangkhanlian, Minister (Agriculture, Horti & AH) said it is the collective responsibility of all denizens of the District to promote peaceful environment.
He said that although FootGal was started since last year only, it has been gradually becoming one of the major highpoints of the district.
It is not only about the game, but a platform to promote civic sense and sanitation, he added.
He urged the youth of the district to engage in more productive activities like sports, other developmental activities, startups, etc.
Hangkhanlian also encouraged the youth to use social media in a more productive ways.
Guest of honour of the programme, Vumlunmang Vualnam, Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) said that success in every field comes with determination and perseverance.
Calling upon all concerned to celebrate the birth of a girl child, he also encouraged all to find ways to promote equality between boys and girls.
He then implored all to engage men and boys to challenge stereotypes and roles.
Pawan Yadav, DC Churachandpur, in his welcome address, said that the event is not only about promotion of awareness on BBBP, it is also about furtherance of Poshan Maah and Swachhta Hi Seva.
The DC also highlighted that Churachandpur stands on top among other districts in collection of plastic wastes.
Prizes to cleanest village and highest collecting village of Churachandpur were given on the occasion.
In today's first match, Sursa Athletic Club played out a goalless draw with Lalpuithluai Foundation School FC to share one point apiece as neither side could find the back of the net despite both teams creating a number of chances.
The second match saw HoMES Boarding School thrashed VENUS Club by a margin of three goals to nil.
After a barren first half, HoMES forwards upped their ante in the second half which saw Waikhom Kanchan Chanu struck two consecutive goals in the 35th and 37th minute while Nemboichong banged in another goal in the 40th minute to seal the match 3-0 in favour of HoMES BS.
In the third match of the day, all time favorites Lenlai Club romped to a convincing 5-0 victory over GNM Training School.
Right from the first whistle, it was Lenlai Club who were in command of the game after Lhingneikim opened the floodgate in the 9th minute.
Hoineihat doubled the lead in the 18th minute before Diana Zairemsiami slotted home another goal in the 19th minute and the two sides went to the break with LC's 3-0 lead.
Lenlai Club continued to maintain their reign in the second half as Vasty Kiphoineng managed to strike a brace in the 39th and 40th minute and capped off the match in style.
