Ukhrul fondly remembers Major Bob Khathing Ralengnao

Commemorating 108th birth anniversary of Major Bob Khathing Ralengnao, the 9th edition of Assam Rifles Major Bob Khathing Tournament commenced with a glittering opening ceremony at Tangkhul Nagalong (TNL) Ground, Ukhrul today.
The event being organised by the Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under aegis HQ IGAR (South) will last till Feb 10.The tournament will be witnessing men's football, women's volleyball and Baby League Football events.
At the event, DIG 10 sector Somsai, Ukhrul Brigadier Ravi Yadav expressed that Major Bob Khathing's life is an inspiration to all.
President of Tangkhul Headman Association AS Vaomi talked on the service and sacrifice, Major Bob Khathing made and said that people should thrive for peace and unity.
He further urged the Assam Rifles to start Major Bob Khathing Memorial Lecture in order to educate and encourage youth about the sacrifices made and instill values.
Tangkhul traditional folk dance, Manipuri dance and Gurkha dance and folk songs performed by Assam Rifles school students and 'Khukri' dance by soldiers marked the event.
14 local football clubs (men), 8 women volleyball teams and eight under 10 baby league teams are competing for the trophies.
The first football match of the tournament was played between Ukhrul United Football Club and Halang Football Club while volleyball match was played between Evergreen A Club and Lunghar Youth Club.
The 2nd edition of Baby League Football Championship which commenced on Feb 3 will be culminate on Feb 6 .
Meanwhile, wreath laying ceremony to pay respect to Major Bob Khathing will be conducted on Feb 28 at the Mantripukhri residence of the Tangkhul legend, said AR.
