Annual sports meet, a platform to exhibit and tap talents: Sword Vashum

Ukhrul, January 31 2019: Retd IAS Sword Vashum while speaking at the inaugural function of Sangmayang Sports Association's (SSA) Annual Sports Meet expressed that excelling in life begins from participation in the local level sports meet, where youths exhibit their talents, thereby acting as a platform to tap their potential from grassroots level.

Sword Vashum who hoisted the flag as the chief guest of the 38th edition of SSA Sports meet at Talui village ground, urged all the participating teams to compete the sporting events with true sense of sportsmanship in order to reach at fullest realisation of their potential.

Saying that success has no shortcut or the easy way, he urged to brave all challenges and obstacles that came in between as they will pave way to success.

"Give your best efforts in this competition playground, success has no limit," he continued.

Ukhrul ADC Chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung who attended the function as guest honour lighted the 38th SSA sports meet lamp.

While speaking on the occasion, Dr Yaronsho Ngalung expounded the theme "Vitality", saying that Tangkhul community was once leading the State in all sphere including politics, education etc.

But sadly, things have changed with time and the community is going backward, he added.

He also stressed on the need to retrospect for a better change within the society.

Later, Sword Vashum unveiled the erected monument in the presence of EMs Edmund Chiphang, VS Paothing, Wezope and Councillors Kapangpam Zimik, Khayinghor, headmen and village leaders.

Altogether 12 teams from different Tangkhul villages will be participating in Football, Volleyball, Badminton, folk dance and choreography competitions etc.

The sports meet will culminate on February 4 .
