14th Governor's Cup Fencing Championship begins, UPAA cruise to mini boys and girls team champions title

The 14th edition of the Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship-2018 being organised by Manipur Fencing Association kicked off today at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak with around 311 fencers from 14 units taking part in it.
The inaugural function of the championship was graced by Health Minister, L Jayanta Kumar; Th Joykumar, president Manipur Fencing Association; Sunil Elangbam- secretary, Manipur Olympic Association and Arunkumar Thangjam, president, NEROCA FC as dignitaries.
International fencer, Th Diana led the oath taking ceremony before the championship started.
The first day of the championship witnessed UPAA, Kiyamgei won the mini girls and mini boys team champions title with 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals and reserved the Wahengbam Virbhadra Singh Memorial Trophy.
Mini Girls' Events
UPAA, Kiyamgei's H Bala opened the gold medal account in the mini-girls' foil event while A Dibyarani claimed the silver medal.
SWC's Giti and S Devarani of RCC claimed the bronze medal in this event.
In the mini-girls epee final, SWC's Uchini beat UPAA's Bidyashori to win the gdld medal while SWC's Tamphasana and KHSC, Khongman's Benao got the bronze medals.
In the sabre event final for mini girls, S Feona of UPAA, Kiyamgei fetched her unit's second goal medal beating Anedi of WSC, Khongman while SWC's Ambika and UPAA's L Chinglembi claimed the bronze medals.
Mini Boys' Events
A Riki of SWC won the mini-boys' foil gold while KHSC's Pappu finished second to bag the silver medal.
UPAA's N Roshan and L Manaoton claimed the bronze medals in this event.
In the epee event for mini-boys, A Tomba of MIISIKHOLL clinched the gold medal beating N Nikash of OLA, Kongba in the final while the bronze medals went to SWC's P Bipesh and KHSC's Zenith.
In the sabre event final for mini-boys, UPAA's Dinesh claimed the gold medal getting better of Y Yaipharemba while semi-finalists, Jenikanta of SWC and S Oris of RCC, Thongju finished with bronze medals.
The championship will continue with senior events tomorrow.
