12th Manipur Polo International : England, India-B emerge victorious on Day 3

The 3rd day of the 12th Manipur Polo International which is being organised by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association as a part of Manipur Sangai Festival at Mapal Kangjeibung witnessed England get the better of Uruguay by 3-1 margin while India-B sunk India-A by an emphatic 17-0 margin to post their second win at the tournament.
In the first match of the day, both England and Uruguay had sluggish start and went into the break goalless.
It was in the early part of the third chukker that England woke up with George Amor striking a goal and took a 1-0 lead.
Though Juan Fernandes of Uruguay drew level with a fine shot in the early part of the 4th chukker, George Amor helped England regained the lead chipping in a goal before Ben Elley found another and sealed the match 3-1.England face India-A in the next tie tomorrow.
The second match between India-A and India-B turned out to be total let down to the audience and all polo enthusiasts as India-B had a landslide 17-0 win thereby completely robbing all competitive edge from the international tournament.
The lop-sided match rather than evoking any excitement left audiences dull and dejected.
Speaking to the reporter of The Sangai Express, one viewer unhappy with unpreparedness of India-A, shared his desire to "maintain standard" of the international competition and urged the organisers to look into the matter seriously so that below par and substandard teams do not pull down the image of such a prestigious tournament in future.
Leishemba Takhellambam shone in this one sided match scoring 5 goals alone while Th Jacob had four goals in his name.
Th Kaoba and P Ojit scored three goals each while S Bimol managed 2 goals in this 17-0 demolition.
Manipur led the first chukker 8-0 through goals scored by Th Kaoba (2), Th Jacob (3), Leishemba Takhellambam (2) and P Ojit (1) before taking a nap in the second chukker.
Leishemba added two more goals in the third chukker while Bimol and Ojit managed one goal apiece to make it 12-0 while Leishemba (2), S Bimol (1), Jacob (1) and Kaoba (1) had their names on the scoresheet.
