Manipur Sports University Centre sets one month deadline

New Delhi, May 23 2016:
Taking serious note of the delay in starting the work on the Sports University in Manipur, Union Minister of State for DoNER Dr Jitendra Singh who is holding additional charge of Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has today instructed officials of the Ministry to give a deadline of one month to the Government of Manipur and added that if the State Government fails to clear the issues related to the land already identified, the Union Sports Ministry will be constrained to look for an alternative piece of land.
Dr Jitendra Singh also issued instructions for expediting the upgradation of sports stadiums at capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, and bringing up sports centres in other parts of Jammu & Kashmir, for which Rs 200 crore has been earmarked by the Government of India.
Among those present at the meeting were Union Secretary for Sports Rajeev Yadav, Additional Secretary Kiran Soni Gupta, Director General Nehru Yuva Kendra, Major General Dilawar Singh and senior officers of the Department of Sports, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports Authority of India.
