Imphal, April 23 2022: Bushan Haobam, who is a member of Indian tennis squad which won the Davis Cup Junior Asia � Oceania Zone, 2022 in New Delhi recently was accorded a grand reception in Imphal today.

The reception ceremony organised by the Imphal District Tennis Association in its complex at Lamphelpat was attended by Govindas Konthoujam, Minister of YAS & PWD; Khumukcham Joykisan, MLA Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency and T Phulen Meitei, Director of YAS among others.

Speaking at the occasion, Govindas Konthoujam, Minister of YAS praised the achievements of Bushan Haobam at the international circuit in such a tender age and promised to reward him with a cash incentive of Rupees five lakh by the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports.

He also encouraged the youths of the State to emulate the feat of Bushan Haobam.

In his presidential address, Khumukcham Joykisan Singh, MLA also appreciated the indomitable spirit of Bushan in achieving excellence in international tennis arena which no Manipuri have achieved so far while recalling his earlier involvement in promoting sports in Manipur, particularly soccer.

An ecstatic and overjoyed Bushan narrated about his struggle, hard work and maiden international success during the reception function.

Yambem Leelenje who groomed Bushan in his initial years as coach also pointed out the unique talent and great potential the local lad has in store.

On his arrival at Imphal Airport, Bushan Haobam was given a rousing welcome with garlands by his family members, fans and hundreds of local tennis players.

Earlier, the Tennis Association of India has selected Bushan Haobam as member of Indian Junior Team for the Asia Oceania Qualifying Zone Junior Davis Cup 2022 and Junior Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Competition.

With the recent success, Bushan and his Indian team-mates have qualified for the World Group Junior Davis Cup under 16 boys' tennis tournament.
