Hosts SSC win Sawombung Trophy 5-A-side football tourney title

Imphal, November 22 2021: Hosts Sawombung Student's Club, Sawombung were crowned the champions of Sawombung Trophy 1st 5-a-side Men's Open Football Tournament.

SSC defeated Dress House, Patsoi 8-7 on penalties after the normal time of the ultimate clash staged here at Sawombung playground ended in a goalless draw.

In the shoot-out, Rohit, Michael, Henry, Sanamacha, Mang, Santa, Hemba and A Rishan found the target for the winning side while Netrajit, Lansingam, Peterm, Kishan, Chungmei, Apu and Monish scored for the Patsoi team.

Winners, SSC received winners prize of Rs 50,000 while runners up, Dress House contend with Rs 25,000 .

The valedictory function also saw the dignitaries felicitating promising player of the year, Thounaojam Korounganba (Jersey No 4) of Junior Star Sawombung; best defender of the tournament, Y Shanta of SSC; best goalkeeper, Kh Rockey of Dress House; top scorer, Kishan Singh of Dress House and best player of the tournament, Chungmei Mariamei of Dress House.

Young Star, Sawombung were adjudged fair play team of the tournament.
