Keen to contribute in grooming young footballers, says former India international Th Bungo

Imphal, July 21 2024: Former India International Thokchom Bungo Singh has expressed his desire to contribute in State's football development by grooming young players.

In a statement, former India midfielder Thokchom Bungo said that he is keen to pursue a coaching career and help grooming young players having hung up the boots back in 2012 after an illustrious career in National, international and club football circuits.

The winner of ONGC Nehru Cup-2007 and AFC Challenge Cup-2008, maintained that he has secured AFC C license despite maintaining a distance for quite a while after his retirement to give his time to family.

Noting the contributions and heavy presence of State players in top tier football tournaments of the country, Bungo who made it to Asia All Star U-20 team in 2002, expressed his desire to share his expertise to further boost the quality of State players.

Two time Santosh Trophy winner- one with Maharashtra in 2000 and one with Manipur in 2002, also sought support from guardians towards his commitment to help groom young players.

Notably, Bungo who started his club career with ESU in 1997 played for various football giants across the country before culminating his professional career at Mohun Bagan in 2012 .

During his peak days, he also represented India in many regional football competitions, Olympic qualifiers and world cup qualifiers.
