Churachandpur, June 19 2018:
It was a super semifinal for United Chikim Federation as its talismanic striker Thangjoylen Khongsai's brace led to an emphatic 2-0 win over Symporia FC in the first semifinal match of the Raja Goukhothang Guite Memoriam held at Lamka Public Ground.
ECF entered the semifinals on the back of a resounding 4-1 win over New Lamka YC in their quarterfinals match with Surjakanta netting the entire 4 goals then.
UCF again fielded a full strength squad today and they did not disappointed their fans that packed the gallery and any other footholds to throng the public ground.
Symporia did begin well in the first half, but thereafter it was the UCF who had their name written all over the other 45 minutes with the arrival of their star players including Khongsai and Surjakanta.
After immense pressure on the Symporian defence, they gave away a free-kick for a tackle on the left flank near their goal mouth, a couple of yards from the box.
As the free kick was taken, Kipgen slotted his first goal with a header in the 67th minute.
He could have doubled the lead few minutes later but the rough and poor pitch condition delayed that feat until the 81 st minute to make amends.
Thangjoylen Khongsai acted quickly enough to score a deflection from Symporian custodian to double the score and settle a berth for the final to be played on Friday in front of the Governor and a host of other government dignitaries.
Governor Najma Heptullah, Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian, Principal Secretary JC Ramthanga and a host of other district officials, tribal chiefs and heads of tribal councils will be in attendance on the final, according to a statement release by Ropiang Foundation Trust, the tournament organiser.
Tomorrow, Muvanlai Athletics will take on Headquarters YO in the second semi-final match to decide the UCF's challenger for the ultimate clash.
