Winners' Cup : ASSA advance despite losing 1-3 to KRFC

Imphal, December 18 2021: ASSA, Thoubal made it to the next stage of the 25th Thangjam Birachandra-Maipakpi Winners' Cup thanks to an away goal against KRFC, Moirang today at Sagang ground.

ASSA, who were 2-0 winners in their home leg fell 1-3 to KRFC, Moirang today and as the aggregate scoreline remained locked at 3-3 after both the fixtures, the away goal came handy and eventually the Thoubal team progressed into the next stage.

Playing at their homeground, Singte George Kom netted the opener as early as 11 minutes into the game before M Emmanuel doubled the advantage in the 26th minute.

KRFC continued to dominate the proceedings after the first half ended 2-0 in their favour and boosted their chances of making it to the next stage with Chungneireng scoring the team's third in the 77th minute.

They almost headed into the next stage but Md Ejaj who scored a brace to power ASSA to 2-0 win at Thoubal Kshetrileikai ground, converted a fine opportunity late in the 84th minute to banged into the crucial away goal in the 84th minute.

ASSA will visit KSC, Kangpokpi on December 22 for their first away match (last 8 round) .
